Clean Rides!
Electric cars run at least partially on electricity. Unlike conventional vehicles that use a gasoline or diesel-powered engine, electric cars and trucks use an electric motor powered by electricity from batteries or a fuel cell. In terms of air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, electric cars and trucks are often cleaner than even the most efficient conventional vehicles. When charged exclusively with renewable electricity like solar or wind, charging and operating an electric vehicle (EV) can be nearly emission free. Though electric cars can be more expensive to purchase than their conventional counterparts, the higher upfront cost is often reduced through federal and state incentives.

With the Kolkata RTO restarting registration so electric vehicles, Kolkata Police lost no time in deploying a fleet of Mahindra E2Os they procured in 2016.

Kolkata - While policing from electric golf carts is done in several parts of India, including Kolkata - particularly at shorelines and beaches, Kolkata Police has gone further with the introduction of a fleet of over 14 full-fleged EVs - Mahindra E2OPlus. Infact, the cars would have hit the streets sooner if they had not hit a strange roadblock at the Regional Transport authority (Report in TOI) - but its all good now.
|
The EVs are being use to patrol ecologically-sensitive areas, such as the Rabindra Sarovar Lakes.
"This car is pollution free as it works on battery. It is completely environment-friendly. We are using this car so as to minimise the pollution level in and around the areas of patrolling," said Mr. Pathak the police outpost at Rabindra Sarobar Lake.
Other than the absence of noxious gasses fosil fuel vehicles emit, theses no noise pollution either. the E2OPlus is super quiet.

According to the police sources, these vehicles are currently patrolling in South Port towards Babughat, in the Victoria Memorial; grounds and surrounding maidan, at the Eden Gardens, at Rabindra Sarobar Lakes and at Sealdah Station. The cars are small and light, making them extremely easy to manoeuvre down The cars are small and light, making them extremely easy to manoeuvre down the narrow lanes and paths in these places.

Speaking to officers assigned to the vehicles, EarthSmiles.net learned that the cars could make a zippy 75-90kmph, with an endurance of upto 120km on a single charge of their Lithium Ion batteries.
Some customisations on the police version of the E2O were walkie talkie holders and space for a police radio. Charging points for the vehicle are available only to the police, making them aways ready for duty.
Kudos to Kolkata Police for leading the way in braking the mindset against Electric!
