Another new green ride startup is PEDL - an app based new initiative by Zoom Car to promote eco-friendly transportation in urban Kolkata by providing bicycles on rent. All we have to do is to install the zoom car app, find a cycle from a nearby PEDL station, link our PayTM wallet (PayTM used for easy and secure payments), scan the QR code to unlock the cycle and we are good to go, an easy way ride.

Unfortunately, PEDL is restricted to areas in the city such as Rajerhat, where cycling is allowed. The police have banned cycling in most parts of central Kolkata.

Being real and useful
Just Dabadigo!
Dabadigo is an electric bike rental startup, initially started in Kolkata in October, 2016. They're now on an expansion drive and their sparkling white Hero EVs should soon be as ubiquitous as a Uber!

Kolkata - Perhaps you've noticed a cool white bike swish by with the legend "Dabadigo" emblazoned on its tail. No, its not the latest food delivery service, but rather a very eco friendly way to deliver yourself - and a friend - to just about anywhere in the city!

Dabadigo is an electric bike rental startup, initially started in Kolkata in October 2016. The ebikes -Hero Electric's Ultima and NYX bike are super easy to use, with low seating position, easy start (they start with the riders just having to turn the key,) and speed limited to a safe 35km/h. Their lithium ion batteries endure for about 60kms per 3+ hour charge. Just right for a date around the city!

And - driving license is not required to ride these bikes.

How it works: Customers have to download the dabadigo app from the their smartphone’s app store. New users have to register initially to use the app services. Customers have to reach the pickup point within 10 minutes after booking a ride. Hire costs Rs. 45/hr and Rs 300/12hrs. Security maintenance charges are applied if rented for 12 hours or more. Vehicles have active GPS tracking system installed for continuous tracking of devices. If the vehicle faces a break down or runs out of charge then dabadigo also has ride time services like roadside replacement of battery if the vehicle ever runs out of charge.

Dabadigo has been awarded by numerous titles as it is a unique startup that emphasis on efforts to reduce pollution. Dabadigo has been awarded as one of India’s top 24 startup by CNN and CNBC. Funded by IFB and Times of India, Thrive 30 by Nasscom has Dabadigo among it’s top 30 promising startups. We love the name, too.

It was fun!
Dabadigo is now expanding its all over South Kolkata and is planning to head towards other parts of Kolkata soon. They have fixed pick up points in Keytala Road, Jadavpur, Bosepukur. The company provides B2C (Businesses to Consumers) and B2B (Business to Business) services.

Electric vehicles plays a very important role as an alternative for fuel based vehicles, there is zero emission of harmful polluting gases, so it is eco-friendly. Apart from that electric vehicles reduces the monthly or weekly maintenance expenses of an individual.
