| In a UNICEF study, it was found that ‘since today’s children have very little knowledge about the risks of degrading environment, they will pay a heavy price for climate change and global warming as they grow into adulthood and old age.’
Instead of letting kids grow up to suffer the consequences of environmental crimes not committed by them, some organisations have taken up initiatives to guide them while they are still young and help them alter their destiny.
HSBC Train Green Programme (TGP) aims to achieve this target.
The programme started with an introductory speech delivered by Mrs. Haimanti Biswas (CSR Head, HSBC Global Service Delivery, Kolkata) followed by schools presenting their initiatives and actions taken for a better environment through PowerPoint presentations.

An initiative of the students of DPS Megacity - asking their school uniform maker to provide the school uniforms in a paper bag instead of the regular plastic carry bags was appreciated by all.
Assembly of God Church School, Park Street converted project files into creative waste paper bins and saved hundreds of spent plastic pens from reaching the landfil in their green activity this year.
Khushboo Chandak from HSBC says, “ To ensure that youth play a proactive role in addressing key environmental issues, every year 100 students from across 10 schools are selected to undergo an extensive training and development programme involving environmental learning on varied themes such as water conservation, waste management, energy conservation, carbon footprint evaluation, etc.”
An outstanding student from each school was selected as “Best Environmental Change Agent” - who receives a trophy and scholarship of Rs. 5000 from HSBC to continue their good work.
Before winding up the event, a list of winners under the following categories were felicitated:

Wildlife - Mahadevi Birla World Academy
Water - AGCS,
Tollygunge Mahadevi Birla World Academy and DPS Megacity were both awarded with the title: “We Have Made a Difference”.
